Google Maps, ahora con o sin conexión a Internet

Alrededor del 60% del mundo no tiene Internet móvil hoy en día, e incluso cuando está disponible, puede no ser la mejor conexión. Esto significa que el acceso a la información de manera rápida y sencilla aún sigue siendo un reto para la mayoría de la población. Éste es un gran problema, especialmente cuando la gente intenta navegar y explorar el mundo. Por este motivo, Google Maps tomó acciones para ayudar a los usuarios a encontrar la información que buscan y llegar al lugar que quieren aún sin conexión a Internet.
A partir de hoy, puedes descargar el mapa de un área entera a tu móvil y la próxima vez que no haya conexión –ya sea que estés en una carretera o en un estacionamiento subterráneo– Google Maps seguirá funcionando sin problemas. Antes sólo podías ver un área el mapa sin conexión, pero ahora puedes incluso obtener direcciones paso a paso para llegar a tu destino, buscar lugares específicos y obtener información útil sobre ellos como sus horarios de operación, reseñas y datos de contacto.
Puedes descargar un área buscando la ciudad, por ejemplo y haciendo clic en la opción de “Descargar”. Una vez descargada, Google Maps pasará a modo offline de manera automática cuando la red falle y estés usando un mapa. Cuando la conexión vuelva, Maps volverá a modo online para ofrecerte información relevante como tráfico en tiempo real en tu ruta. Para poder hacer la descarga, lo único que necesitas estar conectado a una red Wi-Fi.

Google I/O
en mayo de este año y hoy empezaremos a actualizar estas mejoras en las últimas versiones de Google Maps para Android (próximamente para iOS). Continuaremos incluyendo más funcionalidades offline para ayudarles a encontrar su camino, incluso cuando no encuentren una conexión a Internet.
